            GPICC President’s Letter

GPICC Members,

It has been a busy month. I would like to thank all the organizations that have come forward to offer their help and support. I would also like to thank Honc for demolishing the burned out ruins of the old building. The property looks good and is cleaned up. Thank you Elsie
Stearns and Stonegate Bank for letting us use an office. Jennifer Jennings is set up in an office and is operational at Stonegate. We have also asked Betsy Haesemeyer (with the Beacon of Hope) to help us out and she has been a great resource. The Building Committee has made a recommendation (pending board approval) to get a construction trailer set up on site asap until a permanent welcome center can be constructed. In the meantime, they recommended being part of an island-wide coalition that is being formed and headed by Betsy for a community center and event center, with the focus being to bring the big events back to the island, starting new events, and offering trade shows and job fairs at one central location. I'm excited by the prospects for the future. Please remember that this chamber board has had many challenges over the past few months and continues to meet these challenges. Thank you, all board members and committees and their chairs for your devotion to this island business community. Without your hard work we would not be as far as we are.
We will now be looking for help with designing and building a new welcome center. If you are interested in volunteering your services to help in the next step of this undertaking contact Jennifer
Jennings in the chamber office. We are also looking for brochure racks and assorted office equipment; again please call Jennifer if you can help out.
MangoMania is approaching fast
(July 21 and 22) and we still need more sponsors and vendors. Help us raise money for our new building and make this the best MangoMania ever. MangoMania is all about bringing business and tourists to Pine Island during the off-season.  Please contact Jennifer to participate – 239-333-7502, mangomaniafair@gmail.com .
Last, I would like to thank Lisa
Benton for making the transition for Jennifer easier. I know I speak for our present board and past boards when I say "thank you Lisa" and "we all wish you the best."

Respectfully Submitted by,
John Paeno
